Our 12 Month Check Up!!!
Thursday, January 31, 2008The girls had their 12 month well check today and at first I was really nervous because I couldn't get the girls in to see Dr. Mackey. They DID have an appointment scheduled to see him Monday morning, unfortunately I showed up Tuesday morning (thanks to my twin mommy brain I mixed the days up). So we saw Dr. Chepelsky today instead. It was quite a busy day. First they weighed the girls...
Ava weighs 17 pounds 15 ounces and is in about the 7th percentile for weight. She is 29 inches long.
Audrey weighs 19 pounds 4 1/2 ounces and is in the 25th percentile for weight. She is 30 1/4 inches long.
Ava sure is catching up to Audrey, this is the closest their weight has ever been (they are usually 2 pounds apart)!!! The doctor seemed a little concerned with Audrey's weight today. I guess she hasn't put on much weight since their 9 month check up so she wants us to come back in 1 month for a weight check. Boy is that strange to hear, after a whole year of countless weight checks on Ava they are now concerned with Audrey's weight. They sure have flip flopped on me!!
After weights the doctor checked the girls out (eyes, ears throat, etc) and asked if I had any concerns about anyting and boy did i have a list for her! All and All I think it went pretty well, I walked out of the room with a referrall for Audrey to have an OT evaluation (she is still thrusting her tongue and chokes on her bottle at almost every feeding). Again, so weird for me because Ava has always been the one with poor feeding (I spent 4 months in OT with her). She also gave me an order for a lateral neck x-ray for Audrey. Basically a soft tissue x-ray to check and see if her adnoids are enlarged. For the past 2-3 months Audrey has been snoring horribly at night, waking several times a night crying, and has had labored breathing retracting at the collarbone and rib cage.It freaks me out and keeps me up at night. She also stops breathing for a few seconds several times a night. I am thinking maybe she has some form of sleep apnea???
I was also given an order for Audrey to have her blood tested for allergies. She has this horrible rash that has been coming and going for the past few months. Tuesday after her nap she woke up with hives/welts all over her face that quickly spread onto her chin, her ear, and forehead (it was so bad we had her checked at the ER)!!!
Poor Audrey after their immunizations (chicken pox, mmr, and pneumoccal) she had to have an x-ray and blood work done.
We had the x-ray done at CHOC and the radiology department is right around the corner from the PICU where Ava spent the night for observation last February. I will never walk down that hall without thinking about that. Ava sure has come a long way from that night almost one year ago.
The doctor also told me that I could switch Audrey to forward facing in her car seat since she was "close enough" to 20 pounds. I have opted to wait until the girls are AT least 25 pounds. They still seem sooo tiny to me and they have plenty of leg room rear facing.
Audrey woke up from her nap on Tuesday with this rash on her face!! After 5 min. it had spread to her chin!!
